Heat pump rebates in BC (2026): what you actually qualify for
The April 2025 change most websites haven't caught up with
Until early 2025, a Metro Vancouver home switching from natural gas to a heat pump could stack provincial and federal rebates worth five figures. That era is over: fuel-switching rebates for gas-, oil-, and propane-heated homes ended April 11, 2025 in southern BC under the standard streams, and both federal programs closed. Many contractor websites still advertise the old numbers. Before you sign anything based on a promised rebate, check the program pages linked below — they are the only figures that count.

Income thresholds for the $13,000 stream
The CleanBC Energy Savings Program is income-tested with three rebate levels. As published on the official page: a single-person household qualifies up to $51,100 (level 1) through $102,100 (level 3); a household of seven or more qualifies up to $135,100 through $270,200. Between those sizes the thresholds scale with household size — check the official table for your exact number. Your home must be a year-round primary residence at least 12 months old, and the installer must be a program-registered contractor.
What this means in practice (Metro Vancouver)
- Electric baseboards, any income: up to $4,000 whole-home + possible $2,000 bonus. The cleanest case.
- Gas furnace, income within thresholds: up to $13,000 through the Energy Savings Program — use a registered contractor or you get nothing.

- Any quote that assumes a rebate: get the rebate named, in writing, with its program page — and confirm your eligibility on that page yourself before signing.
